With more than 5,000 hectares under vine, Aligote has established a significant presence in Romanian viticulture. The variety has adapted particularly well to several of the country's eastern and cooler wine-growing areas, where its characteristic acidity and freshness can be preserved.

Important plantings are found in Dobrogea and Moldova, while the variety can also be encountered in selected vineyards of Transylvania. Differences in climate, elevation and soil allow Aligote to express several distinct interpretations across Romania.

Romanian Aligote is generally characterised by freshness, lively acidity and an elegant, relatively light structure. Aromatically, the wines often combine green apple and citrus with delicate floral notes and a subtle mineral character.

In warmer vineyards, the fruit profile can become slightly broader and more generous, while cooler sites tend to emphasise acidity, citrus and mineral precision. This versatility has made Aligote an attractive variety for producers seeking expressive and refreshing Romanian white wines.
